How To: Android Oreo Persistent Notification Removal

Updated: May 20, 2018

For those who are running Android 8.0 Oreo on their phones already, chances are you've encountered persistent notifications such as this from FB Messenger. We all see Android System and the accompanying app with its notification. Swiping either left or right and turning off the notification toggles doesn't help and we can only SNOOZE the notification for a limited time.

A third party application downloadable from the Google Playstore: AutoNotification by joaomgcd is the easiest way to clearing out those persistent notifications. The TCR Team also tried filtering the Charging options notification and the app did. This means that you have total control on which notifications you do not want to see.

Adding a filter is easy. It is important to know which parts of the notification is to be included in the filter. Here are some quick steps to remember to get you started:

  1. Know the PARENT/SYSTEM APPLICATION that controls the notification.

  2. Know the USER APPLICATION and the bold text that you see on the drop down menu

  3. Click on the SIMPLE mode check box and enter the filter criteria. In the video example you will see that we searched for ANDROID SYSTEM and used the filter Messenger displaying over other apps

  4. In case of multiple apps under the same PARENT APP, you can use a , (comma) to separate between them. e.g.: Messenger displaying over other apps, chrome
